The Catwalker edit 006
The long
line.
Where should wide trousers meet a loafer? Pin one trouser leg and compare the ending in your own shoes.
An open coat, pale trousers and a brown loafer set up this comparison. Start with nearby tones, then concentrate on where the trouser leg ends.

The Catwalker experiment
See the trouser break.
Extra fabric folds over the loafer. A shorter hem lets the shoe define the end of the line. Pin one leg and compare before altering.
Try it: Wear the shoes you intend to use. Pin one trouser leg to clear the vamp; compare it with the untouched leg, then walk and sit.
Outerwear
See the trouser break.
Pin one trouser leg so the hem clears the shoe's vamp. Compare it with the untouched leg from the front and side before deciding whether to alter the length.
Wear the shoes you intend to use. Walk and sit as well as standing still; check that the fabric clears the ground and does not catch beneath the shoe.
Try the coat open over a simple layer so the two front edges remain visible. Compare that outline with the coat fastened before choosing how to wear it.
Put the pale trousers beside the coat in the same light. Compare their lightness rather than expecting separate garments to match exactly.
Pin one leg to reveal more of the loafer. Compare both sides, then walk and sit before deciding on an alteration.
