Check the hem in the actual shoes you plan to wear: it should clear the ground and show enough of the loafer to make the ending look intentional. Altering that last inch can matter more than adding another accessory.

The trench already has strong double-breasted details and a collar. An open front gives those details space and reveals a quieter column beneath. Start with a plain top and let the coat hang naturally, then check that the belt ends sit neatly at the sides.
